Our Priorities

As your Ward 2 Councillor Candidate, Qavi Aziz is committed to listening to residents and working together to build a stronger, safer, and more connected Ayr community.

Building a Stronger Ayr Together

As your Ward 2 Councillor Candidate, I am committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen our community, invest in our youth, encourage recreation, and ensure residents always have a voice in local decision-making.

Community Centre for Everyone

Support the development of community spaces where residents, families, youth, and seniors can gather, learn, and build stronger connections.

Supporting Youth & Sports

Encourage more recreational programs and sports opportunities that help our youth stay active, healthy, and engaged in the community.

Cricket & Outdoor Recreation

Advocate for improved outdoor recreational facilities, including cricket opportunities and shared spaces that can be enjoyed by all residents.

Listening to Residents

Maintain open communication and ensure every resident has a voice in local decisions through transparency, accessibility, and community engagement.

More Issues That Matter to Our Community

In addition to my core priorities for Ward 2, there are broader issues affecting residents across North Dumfries and Waterloo Region. Some fall directly within municipal responsibilities, while others require cooperation and advocacy with the Region of Waterloo and the provincial and federal governments. I believe our community should have a voice in those conversations.

Housing & Responsible Growth

As North Dumfries and Ayr continue to grow, I support thoughtful growth that provides housing choices for families, seniors and younger residents while respecting the character of our communities. Growth should be accompanied by the roads, utilities, parks, recreation facilities and other infrastructure residents need, while recognizing the importance of our farmland, green spaces and rural character.

Infrastructure &Transportation

As North Dumfries continues to grow, infrastructure and transportation planning should keep pace with our communities. I support careful planning for roads, traffic safety, utilities, sidewalks, trails, parks and other essential infrastructure. I also support working with the Region of Waterloo and other partners to improve practical transportation connections for residents, including seniors, youth and those without convenient access to a vehicle, while respecting the rural character of North Dumfries.

Homelessness & Community Well-Being

Homelessness is a complex issue that requires cooperation between municipalities, the Region of Waterloo, community organizations and other levels of government. I support addressing the underlying causes of homelessness through appropriate housing, income security and coordinated community supports, while ensuring that local concerns and the needs of residents are part of the conversation.

Basic Income Advocacy

I support advocating to the provincial and federal governments for policies that strengthen income security and help residents maintain stability during periods of economic or employment change. A Basic Income Guarantee is one approach being discussed to reduce poverty and provide greater financial stability, and I believe municipalities should have a voice in those broader conversations.

Farmland, Environment & Food Security

I support protecting the farmland, green spaces and natural resources that are an important part of North Dumfries. As our community grows, development should be planned carefully so that growth is balanced with the protection of agricultural land and our rural character. I also support efforts that strengthen local food production, improve access to healthy and affordable food, and help build a resilient community.

Health Care & Community Services

Health care is primarily a provincial responsibility, but its availability directly affects residents and families in our community. I support working with the Region of Waterloo, the Province and community partners to advocate for accessible health care and essential community services. Municipal leaders should make sure local concerns are heard and support cooperation that helps residents access the services they need.

Local Governance & Democracy

I support transparent, accountable and accessible local government where residents have meaningful opportunities to be heard. Municipal decisions should reflect the needs of the community, with clear communication and respectful public engagement. I believe residents should be able to understand how decisions are made and have opportunities to share their concerns and ideas with their elected representatives.

Electoral Reform

Decisions about federal electoral reform are made at the national level rather than by municipal councils. I support constructive public discussion about ways to strengthen representation, participation and confidence in our democratic institutions. Municipal leaders can help ensure that local perspectives are heard when broader democratic issues are being discussed by other levels of government.
